Peak condition for charity climb

Decorative Door Products (DDP)is proud to have delivered on its promise to the Help for Heroes charity by sending 14 slightly apprehensive staff members to take on the National Three Peaks Challenge in 24 hours. 

The company first announced its commitment to the worthy cause at the end of last year. It backed this announcement with a healthy donation of £780 which came from a combination of a Christmas raffle and the donation of money that would usually be spent buying and posting Christmas cards. The staff Christmas party followed, bringing hearty promises of signing up from the admittedly festive spirit fuelled participants. Never ones to shirk a challenge, however, the team had no intention of backing out in the cold light of day, and now after months of serious training, DDP is happy to announce that they completed the feat on 23rd June, raising a massive £4,000 so far.

The DDP team, alongside members of staff from parent-company RegaLead and sister-organisation Cadram, persevered through injury, driving rain and cold conditions – not to mention tenacious midges – with little complaining, to take on the three highest mountains in England, Scotland and Wales, all in the name of charity. 

In total a fantastic eight out of the starting 14 finished, and a special mention must go to DDP’s own David Garcia who, as well as running the Crystal Art facility, is also serving in the Territorial Army with the 52nd Lowland, 6th Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland (6SCOTS). It was David’s initial suggestion that the company undertake the challenge for a charity which is understandably close to his heart, and perhaps this give him added motivation, as he finished the fastest with a time of just under 22 hours, leaving a whole two hours to spare!

Of course, the feat could not have been achieved without the help of the support team, who ensured the three-peakers were encouraged, fed, watered and had adequate blister treatments to hand.

Joint Managing Director and support team member, Guy Hubble comments: “Everyone should be really proud of their efforts in the Three Peaks Challenge, which was no mean feat, particularly when we reached the cold and damp conditions at Scafell! With donations taken so far, we are more than half way towards our promised total of £7,000 towards Help for Heroes for the year."
